Applying for residencia in Fuerteventura
In the Spring of 2007, Spanish law changed with regard to residencia which meant that the old style plastic card became defunct. For those that already have that… it is still legal and useable until it expires, but it will need to be replaced with the new style A4 Certificate when it runs out.
Now it is easier to apply for your residencia in Fuerteventura, and the police station in Puerto del Rosario can issue your certificate in one day, instead of requiring a repeat journey.
We are told that the police will no longer accept the downloadable form available HERE but it does not hurt to practice and get used to the terminology.
We received ours from our Asesoria, who filled them out for us. Go to the police station in Puerto del Rosario, and you will be given the forms, as well as a payment slip to take to a bank and pay a small administration fee. Once you have paid the money to the bank, you then return to the police station with the proof of payment, where they will issue your certificate – nice and simple!
You will also need to take your passport (and copies) and as much other documentation as you can muster. For example, if you already have your NIE certificate, take the original and copies of that also. You will also need to provide a passport photograph (despite that not going onto your new certificate).
Because the photograph is not used on the new certificate – the sheet cannot be used for identification purposes – so you will still need to carry photographic ID with you by law, such as your driving’ license, or your passport. You can get a legal copy of your passport from the Embassy, which removes the need to carry your original passport with you at all times.
So now you know how to apply for your residencia. However, if you are still unsure, then we recommend you use the services of an expert such as Jo from Maxesor. You contact her via telephone on +34 665 671 971, or by email on jofuerte@msn.com Good luck!
