Can I get my prescription medicine from chemists in Fuerteventura?

There was once a time when prescription drugs were freely available over the counter in the Canary islands. This is heavily regulated now – and shouldn’t happen with all prescription medicines. However, there are some medications that are prescription only in the UK, but over the counter here. I have recently been able to get ventolin (asthma medication) over the counter.

One thing is for sure – it certainly seems to be a lot cheaper. Recently, a prescription with 4 different items on it cost us just €17! A bit cheaper than the United Kingdom and Ireland eh?
