Opening a bank account in Fuerteventura is very simple, and took us just fifteen to twenty minutes. We chose Solbank because they were recommended, and were immediately impressed with the charges, the high standard of customer service, and the fact that everyone in the branch seemed to be fluent in English – which was a big reassurance. They also offer a high interest sterling account, which may be beneficial to you if you are transferring your funds from the UK. Transferring said money to and from Lanzarote has proved extremely painless, and the charges are very low. They also provide internet banking, which means no more time consuming trips into town each time yu need to do a bacs transfer.

You will need to have your passport with you, and if you have organised one… your NIE number. You can still open an account without your NIE but you won’t be able to apply for a mortgage here without it, or any form of credit without it.

And it’s really that simple! Don’t be afraid – you’ll be well looked after. After that, just enjoy the customer service your bank provides – service is very personal – and your Bank manager will often greet you by name once they know you a little better.
